Welcome to the Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Milwaukie, Oregon!
Our parish is named after the Gospel event of the Annunciation, when the Angel Gabriel told the Theotokos that God wished to be born in her, and the Theotokos consented.
When she said “yes”, God came to dwell in her, and she became a temple of God.
And that is what we at Annunciation are and are seeking to become: temples of God and dwelling places of the Most High.
God comes to first dwell in us when we receive the sacraments of Baptism, Chrismation, and the Eucharist. And the rest of our lives—both on earth and in heaven—are dedicated to becoming further filled with God.
We do this at Annunciation through worship, through receiving the sacraments, through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, and through striving to follow the commandments.
When we become temples of God, we become what God created us to be. We return to paradise and become paradise. And when we return to paradise, we return to our true home.
